KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- A team from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and two teams representing Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) have been crowned winners of the Hotlink Uni Legends 2025 competition, earning full funding to bring their dream event ideas to life in the fourth quarter of this year.
In a statement today, Maxis said the winning teams were Gegaqsters from USM, with a proposal combining a music concert, youth forum and sports competition, and JPS UiTM Jasin, Melaka, which pitched a sports and outdoor festival for all ages.
Meanwhile, the Student Representative Committee 2024/2025 from UiTM Kota Kinabalu was also selected as a winner with its idea of a two-week festival featuring a variety of activities.
According to Maxis, the competition was open to students from 20 public universities nationwide, with each proposed event expected to attract more than 5,000 participants free of charge.
“Students were encouraged to think big and be ambitious while honing skills in planning, teamwork and community engagement,” it said.
“After two months of intense competition and proposal submissions, 10 shortlisted teams were invited to present their ideas at the final live session recently held at Menara Maxis,” the statement read.
Maxis added that the judging panel comprised industry leaders and creative individuals, with proposals assessed based on feasibility, outreach potential, campus impact and effectiveness in engaging and benefiting the student community.
Maxis Chief Consumer Business Officer Loh Keh Jiat said Hotlink Uni Legends was a platform for young people to lead, collaborate and embody the “pasti mampu” (definitely able) spirit in making their big ideas a reality.
“We are delighted to work closely with the winning teams to bring their dream events to life, which will not only enrich their university experience but also benefit fellow students across campuses,” he said.
Maxis also said Hotlink, which offers the best value at the lowest price through its budget-friendly prepaid and postpaid Pasti Mampu plans, is the driving force behind the Hotlink Uni Legends initiative.
“This ‘pasti mampu’ spirit has also inspired Hotlink Uni Legends, a youth empowerment initiative now in its second year.
“The inaugural edition in 2024 focused on e-sports, while this year’s edition expanded the scope to creative event ideas, giving students more opportunities to showcase leadership, communication skills and talent,” the statement read further.
