KOTA BHARU, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan, Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Petra, presented 30 customised wheelchairs to persons with disabilities (PwDs) at the Health Campus of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Kubang Kerian today.
The Crown Prince also presented certificates to 50 PwDs who completed vocational training under the university, and handed over contributions from the Kelantan Justice of Peace Council to 250 other recipients.
Speaking at the event, USM’s Health Campus director, Prof Dr Shaiful Bahari Ismail, said the Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council also contributed RM340,000 to conduct the Wheelchair Assessment, Education and Modification Programme specifically for underprivileged disabled individuals in the state.
“This contribution benefits 100 PwDs statewide. The programme not only provides equipment assistance but also celebrates the achievements of 50 disabled trainees who completed vocational training under the VT@USM Intellectual Disability Employment Training Programme, sponsored by the Ministry of Higher Education as part of the initiatives under Budget 2024,” he said.
Shaiful Bahari said that most graduates of the programme have already found employment in various sectors that embrace and value the contributions of PwDs.
