Two MMEA Star Team Officers Complete Parachute Course With Fire Dept

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- The Special Task and Rescue Team (STAR Team) of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) made its own history when two of its officers successfully completed the Basic Static Ram Air Parachute Course conducted by the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia’s (JBPM) Special Air Services (PASKUB).  

The intensive course, in collaboration with certified parachute instructors from the 69 Commando Unit of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), was held at the Old Airport, Tekah, Taiping, Perak from Aug 10 to 22.  

STAR Team Commander Captain Maritime Syuzefril Mat Noor and Sabah & Sarawak Assault, Squadron leader Lieutenant Commander Maritime Nik Muhamad Hafizan Nik Muhamad Zawawi were awarded their parachute wings by JBPM Director-General Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohammad today.  

In a statement today, MMEA said that during the training, participants successfully carried out 13 jumps from a height of 4,000 feet using the Mi-17-IV (M994-01) BOMBA 01 aircraft as the official platform.  

“The first-ever participation of the STAR Team in this parachute course marks a historic milestone since the elite unit of the MMEA was established 20 years ago.  

“It carries a major objective of strengthening the tactical capabilities and airborne expertise of STAR Team operators in special maritime missions,” the statement said.  

MMEA added that this achievement signifies the strategic cooperation between the STAR Team and the Fire Department’s PASKUB, opening a new chapter in enhancing the professionalism and readiness of the nation’s elite assets in real operational fields.  

The intensive course was also joined by 15 participants from various national security agencies, including the two STAR Team officers, one officer from the PDRM General Operations Force (PGA), and the rest from PASKUB Fire Department.
