Penang MMEA Inspects New Leased Jetty Site At SPCT For Asset Operations

GEORGE TOWN, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- The Penang Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) is evaluating a new site for a leased jetty for operational purposes and asset deployment in efforts to strengthen preparedness and improve enforcement effectiveness in the state's waters.

Its director, Maritime Captain Muhammad Suffi Mohd Ramli said the selection of a strategic location is very important to strengthen the agency's ability to carry out enforcement duties, search and rescue operations (SAR), and protect the country's maritime resources.

"The MMEA always prioritises the aspects of readiness and asset effectiveness so that tasks can be carried out optimally for the safety of the country's waters," he said in a statement today.

Previously, he, along with the Penang MMEA deputy director (operations) Maritime Commander Mohd Hashim Mat Zain and several senior officers, conducted an assessment visit to the proposed site at the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal (SPCT) here.

Also on the visit were representatives of Penang Port Sdn Bhd and the Public Works Department (JKR) who provided technical insights and logistical support to ensure the proposed site meets operational requirements.

In other developments, Muhammad Suffi said that his team also conducted a working visit with Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi to the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge during the minister's recent visit to the state.

He also said that during the visit, Maritime Commander Mohd Hashim provided a safety briefing before the delegation boarded an MMEA patrol boat to conduct an underwater inspection and a survey of the main bridge structure area.
