Floods: One Relief Centre Opened In Pokok Sena, Sheltering 200 Victims

ALOR SETAR, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- A temporary relief centre (PPS) was opened in Pokok Sena last night to accommodate 200 victims from 50 families affected by floods.

Kedah Malaysian Civil Defence Force deputy director Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said all the victims from Mukim Gajah Mati, Mukim Tualang and Mukim Derang were housed at the Pokok Sena Multipurpose Hall, which was opened at 11 pm.

“The areas affected by the floods are Taman Puteri, Kampung Sungai Durian, Kampung Temusu and Kampung Pulau Nyor.

“Three rivers in Kedah have recorded dangerous water levels, namely Sungai Nawa in Kampung Pokok Sena Lama, Pokok Sena; Sungai Chepir in Titi Pekan Sik, Sik; and Sungai Ketil in Kampung Bongor, Baling,” he said in a statement today.

He added that three other rivers were at warning levels, namely Sungai Muda in Ampang Jajar, Kuala Muda; Sungai Bata in Kampung Bata, Kubang Pasu; and Sungai Naka in Naka, Padang Terap.

Several areas in the state were hit by floods following heavy rain since 2 pm yesterday.
