KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- A total of 352 flood victims involving 104 families are still taking shelter at temporary relief centres (PPS) in Johor, Perak and Kedah as of 10 pm tonight, according to their respective State Disaster Management Committees (JPBN).
In JOHOR, the number of flash flood victims in Pontian remains at 159 people from 46 families housed at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Melayu Raya PPS since 6 am.
JPBN chairman Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said all affected residents were from Kampung Melayu Raya, Kampung Paya Embun, Kampung Pak Kalib, Kampung Seri Menanti and Kampung Maju Jaya, with the weather now reported to be fine.
In PERAK, the number of affected residents in Larut, Matang and Selama (LMS) dropped to 107 people from 33 families compared to 170 people (52 families) this afternoon.
The JBPN Secretariat said the Dewan Serbaguna Taman Kaya PPS in Taiping was closed at 7.30 pm, leaving three PPS still in operation — SK Simpang, SK Matang and SK Matang Gelugor.
“A total of 22 victims (eight families) are at the SK Simpang PPS, 38 (11 families) at SK Matang PPS, and 47 (14 families) at SK Matang Gelugor PPS,” the secretariat said.
In KEDAH, the number of victims at the Dewan Serbaguna Pokok Sena PPS dropped to 86 people from 25 families compared to 91 people (26 families) this afternoon.
Kedah Civil Defence Force (APM) deputy director Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said the decrease followed several families being allowed to return to their homes.
At present, only three rivers are at the alert level — Sungai Muda in Ampang Jajar, Kuala Muda; Sungai Bata in Kampung Bata, Kubang Pasu; and Sungai Naka in Padang Terap.
The weather in all three states was reported to be fine, but authorities continue to monitor the situation following warnings of continuous rain in several areas early tomorrow morning.
