KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- A teacher and a videographer were among the four main winners of the Malaysia Photo Hunt 2025 photography and videography contest organised by Tourism Malaysia, aimed at intensifying the promotion of tourist destinations ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026.

Kelvin Pudun Dennis, 45, a teacher from Serian, Sarawak, clinched the top prize in the smartphone photography category with his picture of the Susung Waterfall in Sarawak, earning himself a four-day, three-night holiday package to Kuala Lumpur and Melaka worth RM15,000.

"I really did not expect to win the grand prize as I submitted my entry rather late," he told reporters here today.

A videographer from Kuala Lumpur, Toh Jern Yoong, 25, won the main prize in the camera video category with his footage featuring Batu Caves and the city’s skyline of towering skyscrapers.

“The location that truly stood out for me was Batu Caves, as it is a place where crowds, including foreign tourists, gather. I also wanted to showcase the grandeur of landmarks such as Merdeka 118, the Petronas Twin Towers and the Kuala Lumpur Tower," said Toh, who won a four-day, three-night holiday package to Kuching, worth RM35,000.

The smartphone video category was won by Mrutyaunjai Sanjay Parab, who received a four-day, three-night holiday package to Pangkor Island and Selangor.

Mohd Nazri Sulaiman was named the winner of the camera photography category, earning a four-day, three-night holiday package to Penang worth RM25,000.

Held from June 1 to Aug 31, Malaysia Photo Hunt 2025 received 2,310 photos submissions and 121 videos, each between 30 and 60 seconds in length, based on the theme ‘Surreal Experiences’.

The competition offered total prizes worth RM400,000, supported by strategic partners and sponsors including Canon, Sony, Samsung, OPPO and Huawei.

Meanwhile, Tourism Malaysia deputy director-general (Promotion II) Lee Thai Hung, in his speech at the prize-giving ceremony, said that the tourism competition based on visual arts plays a vital role in strengthening the country’s tourism promotion agenda.

"What makes Malaysia Photo Hunt 2025 even more exciting is that the photos and videos are also widely shared on social media and digital platforms, further enhancing efforts to promote the nation’s tourism industry," he said.
