ISKANDAR PUTERI, Sept 25 (Bernama) — Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) striker Bergson da Silva was the toast of JDT when he scored a hat-trick to help his team crush Bangkok United FC 4-0 in Group B of the 2025/2026 ASEAN Club Championship at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium (SSI), tonight.
The first half saw both teams attacking each other but failing to find the net, with the visitors testing the Southern Tigers’ defence several times through moves on the left.
However, JDT’s defence remained intact to contain the opponent’s pressure, while chances by Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi and Jon Irazabal Iraurgui also failed to materialise.
As the second half began, Bergson, who was recently crowned the all-time top scorer in the Super League, needed less than a minute to open the scoring in the 45th minute, thus breaking the deadlock to the cheers of the home fans.
The excitement at SSI grew when Joao Figueredo added a second goal in the 51st minute before Bergson scored again in the 72nd minute.
The Brazilian star then completed his personal hat-trick with a stoppage-time goal in the 91st minute, making it 4-0 and confirming the stylish victory of Xisco Munoz's squad.
The victory put JDT at the top of Group B with a full six points after two matches, before travelling to Phnom Penh to face PKR Svay Rieng FC at Morodok Techno National Stadium on Dec 4.
