MELAKA, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- Melaka will continue to formulate inclusive policies and initiatives to ensure the state remains relevant and competitive in the tourism sector at both the regional and international levels.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said strategic measures have created a strong foundation for tourism, as shown by the arrival of over 11 million visitors and RM12.05 billion in revenue as of August.
He called these figures a convincing reason for industry players to continue supporting the sector's growth.
"We do not want Melaka to be a minor contributor to the national tourism agenda. Therefore, the three-day Visit Malaysia Travel Meet (VMTM) 2025 is designed as a strategic platform to gather over 400 tourism industry players nationwide under one roof.
"I am confident it will be a bridge to expanding international networks, pioneering new investment opportunities, and creating collaborative spaces that can elevate our national tourism industry," he said after launching the event at the Melaka International Trade Centre, Ayer Keroh, today.
Also present were Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, and Tourism Malaysia director-general, Datuk Manoharan Periasamy.
He added that the economic benefits generated by VMTM 2025 will extend across all levels of society, including small businesses, local communities and major tourism industry leaders.
"Therefore, through the event and its various initiatives, we aim to provide a unique opportunity for the public, especially those from B40 families, to enjoy tourist attractions at special rates," he said.
The three-day VMTM, which begins today to coincide with World Tourism Day and the World Tourism Conference, is a tourism exhibition designed to empower large-scale initiatives promoting domestic travel.
The event features two main segments: a Business-to-Business (B2B) session for industry players and corporate companies, and a Business-to-Consumer (B2C) session open to the general public.
A total of 180 exhibitors are participating, offering exclusive travel packages that cover watersports, nature exploration, theme parks, and cultural experiences at special prices, alongside interactive showcases of traditional crafts, arts and heritage cuisine.
