Perlis Considers RM2-RM5 Exit Charges At Padang Besar, Wang Kelian ICQs To Thailand

KANGAR, Sept 24 (Bernama) -- The Perlis government is studying in detail a proposal to impose state charges of between RM2 and RM5 on tourists leaving the country through the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex at Padang Besar and Wang Kelian to Thailand.

Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli said they needed to study the proposal before making an official application to the Federal Government to consider approving it to be implemented for the benefit of the state.

He added that should the proposal be approved by the Federal Government, it would generate income for the state government that could, among others, be used to upgrade infrastructure in Perlis.

"This is still being studied. Hopefully, we will get approval (from the Federal Government after we have carried out the study and submitted the official application),” he told reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting at the Seri Putra Complex here today.

Meanwhile, State Secretary Datuk Rahimi Ismail said the study was important to obtain accurate data for making the official application to the Federal Government.

Rahimi believes that, if approved by the Federal Government, the charges imposed would benefit the state government, as the income could be used for the people and for development purposes.
