KOTA KINABALU, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera(LTAT) has designated 38 schools located in military camps across Malaysia as Sekolah Angkat MADANI, including two in Sabah, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
He said the programme (MADANI Adopted Schools) is among the initiatives introduced by the government under the MADANI framework, implemented by LTAT together with its companies and subsidiaries to support the selected schools.
“Today in Sabah, we handed over contributions to two schools, one in a camp here and another in a camp in Kota Belud. Each school received a contribution of RM25,000,” he told reporters after visiting Lok Kawi Camp here today.
The Sekolah Angkat MADANI initiative was introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to encourage Malaysia’s corporate sector to play a greater role in national development, particularly in education.
Mohamed Khaled said in addition to the programme, LTAT is also implementing the Kem Santuni MADANI initiative, aimed at improving facilities in military camps with an allocation of RM100,000 for each camp.
“A total of five camps are involved under this programme, two located in Sabah and three in Peninsular Malaysia. In Tawau, one of LTAT’s subsidiaries upgraded a multipurpose hall with an allocation of RM100,000,” he said.
Mohamed Khaled said the visit also aimed to review development and welfare programmes for military personnel and their families, including the MADANI Economic Programme through a stingless bee honey project involving 40 participants with an allocation of RM80,000.
“This project is expected to generate an income of about RM1,700 per month for each participant. We are giving them the opportunity to carry out this economic programme based on their interests, and it is intended to help members increase their income,” he said.
