KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT), in collaboration with the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), launched the RM150,000 project to upgrade the facilities at the Lok Kawi Camp's Masjid As-Salam in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, under the 'Santuni MADANI’ Camp programme.
LTAT chief executive Mohammad Ashraf Md Radzi said the mosque upgrading work is sponsored by LTAT, in collaboration with the group's company, UAC Berhad, and the handover was officiated by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin in conjunction with his visit to the camp today.
"Mohamed Khaled also handed over a mock cheque for RM50,000 to Sekolah Kebangsaan Kem Lok Kawi, Kota Kinabalu and Sekolah Kebangsaan Kem Tentera, Sandakan, under the MADANI Adopted School programme.
"Through the 'Santuni MADANI’ Camp and the MADANI Adopted School initiatives, the LTAT expresses its appreciation for the sacrifices of the MAF personnel by providing welfare and educational and financial empowerment assistance, in tandem with the MADANI aspirations towards a more caring and inclusive Malaysia,” he said in a statement today.
Mohammad Ashraf said that with the support of LTAT and its more than 14 companies, the MADANI Adopted School programme currently encompasses 38 schools at all MAF camps nationwide, with a total allocation of RM950,000, thus enhancing the educational facilities of MAF children.
He said that during the visit, the LTAT Foundation also channelled financial aid worth RM15,000 directly to 30 MAF personnel's families at the Lok Kawi Camp, who were identified as being underprivileged and facing critical health issues.
LTAT also held the Contributor Benefits and Financial Literacy briefing programme, which has benefited over 40,000 MAF personnel nationwide since its introduction in December 2023.
LTAT group company, Pharmaniaga Berhad, through the Healthy Operations Squad (SOS), also offered free health checkups, such as blood glucose and blood pressure tests, to encourage a culture of continuous health care among MAF personnel during the visit.
The Lok Kawi Camp is one of five camps selected under the 'Santuni MADANI’ Camp initiative, with a RM500,000 allocation nationwide, comprising infrastructure repairs, economic empowerment, financial literacy and community support, that has benefited over 5,900 MAF families.
Also present at the event were Army chief Gen Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan, Eastern Field Commander Lieutenant General Datuk Mohd Sofi Md Lepi, Fifth Infantry Division Commander Major General Datuk Noorrul Azril Ariffin and LTAT Foundation chief executive Mohd Nizar Sudin.
Meanwhile, the LTAT expressed its solidarity with the people of Sabah who are currently facing floods.
"We stand firmly with the people of Sabah during these challenging times. The LTAT prays for peace and safety, and we will continue to play a crucial role in supporting MAF families and the affected communities. Their patience is an inspiration for us to continue to serve and ensure no one is marginalised,” it said.
