PASIR PUTEH, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- More than 1,500 residents in Kampung Telosan here, can now enjoy clean water following the ‘Clean Water for Communities’ project, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by Etiqa, in collaboration with Islamic Aid Malaysia (IAM).
Etiqa Family Takaful Berhad chief executive officer Zafri Ab Halim said residents previously depended on a gravity-fed water system from Bukit Tongkat, which could no longer meet the growing demand.
“The small catchment area, outdated PVC and polypropylene pipes, frequent leaks, and low water pressure, especially during the dry season, have disrupted daily life and impacted agriculture, which is the primary livelihood of the residents,” he said in a statement today.
Zafri added that the upgrade project includes the installation of two high-density polyethylene (HDPE) water tanks, each with a capacity of 3,000 gallons, the replacement and connection of 3.5 kilometres of piping, a synthetic membrane-based water filtration system, and improvements to the intake structure.
The project was carried out with the spirit of gotong-royong, involving IAM volunteers and local residents.
Public facilities such as the mosque, madrasah, clinic, and Pusat Asuhan Tunas Islam (PASTI) have also benefitted from the new system.
IAM president Zawahir Abdullah added that this initiative not only improves access to clean water, but also brings a lasting positive impact to the community.
