BUTTERWORTH, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor stressed that the spirit of unity and togetherness were the main keys to overcoming various challenges in building our country.
In his 2025 Malaysia Day celebration speech today, he said that Sept 16 was an auspicious date that should always be remembered as the day Malaysia was founded and became independent and a sovereign country.
"As Malaysians, we should be proud and remember this important moment. The formation of Malaysia brought many benefits to everyone but the journey to build our country is still long and filled with challenges.
“Therefore, only with unity and togetherness can all these challenges be overcome,” he said in a video of his speech aired at the 2025 Malaysia Day celebrations at PICCA@Arena Butterworth tonight.
He also invited Malaysians to heed this year’s Malaysia Day celebrations theme of ‘Malaysia MADANI, Rakyat Disantuni’ that reflected the government’s commitment and concern for people’s welfare.
Hajiji said the principles of Malaysia MADANI introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed on kindness, well-being, justice, unity and equitable development for all.
He said that patriotism and love for the country needed to be instilled so that unity and harmony between various races and religions continued to be maintained in Malaysia.
Anwar, Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow, Sarawak deputy premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, representing Sarawak premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg along with Sabah deputy chief minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya representing Hajiji, attended tonight’s festivities.
This year’s Malaysia Day celebration held in Penang is in line with the rotation of venue between Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia on an annual basis.
