Kedah PMR Serves As Platform For TVET Students To Gain Knowledge

BALING, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) not only offers various government services directly to the people, but also serves as a platform for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students to gain knowledge.

Through the volunteer programme in conjunction with the ongoing Kedah PMR at the Baling District Council Sports Complex here, Bandar Baharu Community College student Ahmad Faiz Arshad Mohd Faisal, 20, gets to participate in the three-day activity on motorcycle engine oil change, which began yesterday.

"I am pursuing a Certificate in Automotive Technology, which is more towards car maintenance. When I had the opportunity to follow this programme, I also got to learn about motorcycle maintenance.

"So far, I already know about motorcycle maintenance and changing the engine oil… perhaps, if there is an opportunity after this, I might even learn how to repair motorcycles,” he said when met by Bernama at the Kedah PMR here today.

As for his friend Muhammad Darul Abdul Rahman, 20, this is his third time he is participating as a volunteer in the Kedah PMR as an off-campus programme, which is more practical than on-campus.

"I like to gain new knowledge and many off-campus programmes are held by the college. So, whenever I have the opportunity, I will join.

"Previously, I didn't even know the types of screws, but after a day of toiling, you can say that I'm quite good and my quality of work is also improving,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bandar Baharu Community College lecturer Suraya Ismail@Shaari said six students participated in the motorcycle engine change programme at the Kedah PMR this time.

"This programme not only lets them learn how to do things themselves but also exposes them to the real working world.

"They also get to gain more knowledge through sharing and guidance from the trained and experienced mechanics, which then provides added value to all the students involved,” she said.
