Earthquake: KKS, KKS2 Given Permission To Conduct Online PdP For Three Days From Today

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 25 (Bernama) — The Segamat Community College (KKS) and Segamat 2 Community College (KKS2) have been granted permission to conduct online Teaching and Learning (PdP) sessions and Work From Home (BDR) starting today until Aug 27.

This followed the weak earthquake that occurred in Johor yesterday morning.

The Polytechnic and Community College Education Department (JPPKK), in a statement today, said the permission was given following the findings of an initial inspection by the Segamat Public Works Department.

“It was found that there were small cracks in the building walls and several internal spaces of KKS. However, it did not involve damage to the structure and structural beams of the building.

“Inspections of the main building at two KKS2 dormitory blocks,  which house about 200 students, were also conducted. The students have been instructed to return home to make room for further building inspection. However, office operations will continue as usual,” read the statement.

The department will continue to closely monitor the situation with relevant agencies to ensure the safety, welfare and smooth operation of the institution.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia), the first tremor measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale in Segamat occurred at 6.13 am, while the second tremor,  at 9 am and measured 2.8, struck the Yong Peng area in Batu Pahat, which is about 28 kilometres northwest of Kluang.

Police confirmed receiving three reports of property damage following the tremors, but no injuries or fatalities were reported.
