12/10/2025 02:03 PM

KUALA SELANGOR, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) will also field candidates from MCA and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), in addition to UMNO, to contest in the 17th Sabah state election.

MIC, on the other hand, is less likely to contest, taking into account the small number of Indian voters in Sabah, BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

“Most of BN’s candidates, Insya-Allah will be new faces, while we will also retain some of the existing ones, and we will increase the number of professional candidates to represent BN.

“The cooperation between Pakatan Harapan and BN has been finalised, and there will be no overlapping of seats,” he told reporters after attending the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35) outreach programme here today.

‎On the number of seats BN will contest, Ahmad Zahid, who is also UMNO president and Deputy Prime Minister, said it will be announced on nomination day.

On Oct 6, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced the dissolution of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly to pave the way for the 17th Sabah state election.

The Sabah State Assembly has 79 seats, of which 73 are contested, while six are appointed assemblymen.

The Election Commission (EC) will hold a special meeting on Oct 16 to discuss key dates and other matters related to the election.
