JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- The Johor government will provide a free bus service to facilitate the movement of tourists in Johor Bharu city in conjunction with Visit Johor Year 2026 (VJY2026).

Chief Minister Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said this initiative could facilitate movement and provide comfort to tourists.

He said it would also ensure that their journeys would run smoothly with the transportation facilities provided despite the construction works being carried out in the city.

"I see the construction work in this city as part of development, for example, we have free buses near urban areas.

"This is to facilitate movement. I see that (the construction work) will not be a constraint," he said at a press conference after officiating at the launching ceremony of the official mascot, tagline, song and video of VJY2026 at the Johor Zoo here today.

He said this when asked to comment on whether construction work, including the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS Link), currently underway in the city would be a hindrance to the arrival of tourists.

Onn Hafiz said various works to upgrade roads and tourism infrastructure are also being carried out in preparation of VJY2026.

Additionally, he said the movement of tourists in and out of the border gates would also be smoother with the use of technology such as the quick response (QR) code system at the immigration counters that have been provided.

Earlier, two tigers (Panthera tigris), born at the Johor Zoo, namely Cuping and Jucy, were chosen as the official mascots of VJY2026.

Meanwhile, "Meh Lah Johor!" was chosen as the welcome slogan as it depicts the open and friendly invitation of the Johor people, welcoming the arrival of tourists to explore the beauty and uniqueness of the state.
