Several Matters In PSA Being Fine-tuned Prior To Enforcement - Speaker

26/06/2025 02:17 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 (Bernama) -- Several matters within the framework of the Parliamentary Services Act 2025 (PSA) are being fine-tuned before the law can be enforced, said Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.

He said the detailed matter would be tabled for approval at the Second Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Fifteenth Parliament, scheduled to begin on July 21.

“Insya-Allah, in a month or two, it will be completed.  During the first week of the meeting, we will notify the Members of Parliament, as several matters need to be approved by the House,” he told reporters at a programme with the Dewan Speaker and the Gotong-Royong of Malaysian Parliamentarians here today.

Last March, the Parliamentary Services Bill (RUU) 2025 was passed by the Dewan Rakyat, providing the Parliamentary Services with autonomous power to determine the policies and governance of the Malaysian Parliament after 33 years.

The bill was passed by a majority voice vote after being debated by 35 government and opposition MPs.

Its passage marks a significant milestone in the MADANI Government’s institutional reform efforts, aiming to restore the nation's governance framework by ensuring Parliament functions as a truly independent and sovereign institution.

The Parliamentary Services Bill 2025 seeks to establish parliamentary services as a separate entity from the public service.

It also provides for the formation of the Parliamentary Service Council (MPP), which will oversee appointments and employment terms for parliamentary service members, manage financial matters related to the service and develop training programmes for parliamentary staff.
