NILAI, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- About 40 per cent of helmets exchanged under the Free Helmet Exchange Programme at the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) in Dataran Nilai were found not to meet the required standards.
Negeri Sembilan Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Hanif Yusabra Yusuf said the helmets detected as non-compliant included those without the SIRIM certification mark, cracked helmets, helmets without padding and half-shell helmets still in use.
He stressed that wearing a proper helmet is crucial in reducing the risk of injury in the event of an accident.
“Most fatal accident cases are caused by head injuries, so wear helmets properly, with the SIRIM mark and in compliance with safety standards, as this can significantly reduce the risk of death,” he told Bernama.
Earlier, Negeri Sembilan JPJ, in collaboration with the Transport Ministry, provided 3,000 adult helmets over three days, as well as 700 bottles of engine oil for motorcyclists to benefit from free oil changes.
