JITRA, July 10 (Bernama) — Aid continues to pour for Putri Qisya Nur Izzat, 12, whose parents and four younger siblings were found drowned in Sungai Korok last Saturday.

Apart from relatives, school authorities and community leaders who have visited her since last Monday, various non-governmental organisations have also come forward to provide support and assistance to the girl.

Chairman of the Anak Muda MADANI Kedah Association, Datuk Zuraidi Rahim,  said the tragic incident involving  Putri Qisya's parents and four siblings has deeply affected not only the child but also the wider community.

"We are here to offer support and encouragement to Putri Qisya. We hope she will remain strong and not lose heart in the face of this hardship she has to endure throughout her life," he said when met by reporters after visiting Putri Qisya at her relative's residence in Taman Sri Aman here, yesterday.

He said to safeguard Putri Qisya's well-being, the association will collaborate with the State Education Department (JPN) to manage her needs, especially those concerning her education.

Sungai Petani Member of Parliament Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari also visited Putri Qisya to offer support and encouragement to the girl.

The Kedah Keadilan Youth (AMK) Chief also conveyed condolences from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, to Putri Qisya and her family.

"I have also spoken to the Ministry of Education (MoE) to ensure that her mental well-being is taken care of despite the trauma she has experienced.

“Counselling sessions have been arranged and I understand that a schedule for these sessions has been set,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Kedah Education Department (JPN) has given the assurance that she will also enjoy all forms of schooling assistance from the government.

Its deputy director (School Management), Abdul Rahim Mat, said these include the Supplementary Food Programme, School Milk Programme (PSS) and also a one-off disaster assistance in the form of cash under the Poor Students Trust Fund (KWAPM).

“Three of her siblings who drowned were also school students and covered by insurance. As the only heir, the compensation will be paid to Putri Qisya,” he said.

He said the department is also prepared to assist in opening a bank account for Putri Qisya to manage financial matters arising from contributions by various parties concerned about her situation, and also her transfer to another school, should she wish to enrol in a school closer to her home.

Putri Qisya’s parents, Mohamad Azim Izat Ishak, 32, and Nurul Hidayah Khadijah Razman Efendi, 31, were found drowned with their four children, Putra Rayyan Nur Izzat, 9; Hawa Adriana Nur Izzat, 8; Annayla Humaira Nur Izzat, 7; and Tuah Haydar, six months.

The family’s car is believed to have veered off the road and plunged into the Sungai Korok early Saturday morning before it was discovered last Monday.
