BANGKOK, Dec 26  --Thailand has recorded 110 new COVID-19 cases including 64 locally transmitted cases linked to a seafood market, and zero fatalities over the last 24 hours, bringing the tally in the kingdom to 6,020 cases and 60 fatalities.

Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesman, Thaweesilp Wissanuyothin said of the 110 new cases, 30 were migrant workers found through active case detection in Samut Sakhon while 16 were imported cases.

“To date, there are 1,338 migrant workers tested positive for COVID-19 and most of them have been asymptomatic,” he said at a press conference, here, today.

Thaiweesilp said the latest outbreak linked to the seafood market in the southwestern province of Samut Sakhon had spread to 33 provinces in the kingdom.

He said the public health authorities were stepping up active case detection to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

The index case at the seafood market is believed to be a 67-year-old shrimp seller who tested positive for the virus last week. The government has immediately imposed a lockdown and night curfew in Samut Sakhon until Jan 3.

To halt the spread of COVID-19 in the kingdom, the government has announced eight additional preventive measures under the Emergency Decree including banning mass gatherings, restricting movement of migrant workers, and the public are prohibited from entering the COVID-19 high-risk areas.

The announcement, published in the Royal Gazette, said provincial governors were given the power to close places or areas deemed at risk of COVID-19 infections and all measures by each provincial administration must be in line with the directives issued by prime minister and CCSA.
