TAWAU, Nov 30 --  Amnah Moktar who lost her son to COVID-19 10 days ago will receive a monthly assistance from the Social Security Organisation (Socso).

Tawau Socso office head Joseph Immanuel said Amnah, 52, would receive a lifetime survivors' pensions at the rate of 50 per cent of the average assumed monthly wage of her son Zainol Jemihin, 39.

“Since the late Zainol was still single, his mother will receive this benefit payment every month,” he said when met by Bernama.

Socso also channelled RM2,000 in funeral expenses aid to Amnah.

Joseph said Socso was very concerned over the welfare of its contributors as well as their next-of-kin facing any difficulties.

“Cooperation of all parties, especially family members of contributors hit by any disaster is important and they are also urged to report to the nearest Socso office,” he said adding that so far Socso has helped two families of COVID-19 victims in Tawau.

Zainol worked at the Tawau Post Office staff before leaving his job in 2013 due to frequent leg pain as a result of a road accident in the previous year.

According to his brother, Zamzuri said Zainol made a living by providing tuition classes for students in their housing area.
