KUALA LUMPUR,  Oct 1 -- The German Embassy in Malaysia has extended its sincere gratitude and appreciation towards the efforts made by Malaysia in managing the COVID-19 cases in the country in both regional and global scale, said the Embassy’s Chargé d'affaires Dr. David Krivanek.

He said the cases of COVID-19 are fairly well contained as people are adhering to the restrictions imposed, like wearing face masks and social distancing.

“No doubt there is a rise in cases (in Malaysia) recently, so it’s important we all continue adhering to the recommendations imposed. So far, I would say well done Malaysia in managing COVID-19 cases,” he told Bernama after launching the three different wall murals in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of the reunification of Germany – which will be observed this Saturday (Oct 3) – at the German ambassador’s official residence, here, today.

As of yesterday, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah had said a total of 89 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the past 24 hours, with almost all the states being affected.

He said of the total, 86 were local transmissions, and the cumulative total is now 11,224 cases, with 1,121 active cases.

In a related matter, Krivanek said that investments from Germany – to a certain extent – were affected in Malaysia due to the restrictions (in Malaysia) in view of COVID-19.

“Some foreign companies including German companies have faced issues like bringing in experts to build or repair something in Malaysia.

“This has led to a few German companies based in Malaysia to consider postponing envisaged investments due to the restrictions,” he said, adding that there are around 400 German-based companies active in Malaysia with the majority of them being small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
