#ThinkTwice: Malaysians Turn Content Into A Scam Prevention Movement

03/03/2026 08:25 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 (Bernama) -- What began as a single content creator sharing a personal story on TikTok has snowballed into a nationwide community movement, as Malaysians increasingly turn to the platform to spearhead a grassroots scam prevention initiative.

Under the hashtag #ThinkTwice, the movement is gaining significant momentum as local content creators and everyday netizens share first-hand encounters with fraudulent schemes to educate the public.

According to a statement from TikTok, the trend was sparked by popular local content creator Moses Wong (@moseswck), who posted a video detailing how an individual close to him nearly fell victim to a job scam.

Wong’s call for others to “stitch” his video with their own insights has since triggered a flood of educational content, transforming personal stories into vital financial and safety lessons.

Among those joining the movement is content creator J (@isawkwardguy), who recounted a high-pressure encounter with a Macau scam involving individuals impersonating Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) officials.

Digital coach Sufina (@wfsufina) similarly utilised the platform to break down the anatomy of phishing scams, using a real-life case of a retired teacher who lost over RM82,000 to a fake e-commerce investment scheme.

Popular local personality Jestinna Kuan also chimed in to highlight that scams are now occurring face-to-face, sharing a story about a tourist scam designed to extort money through rigged mobile devices.

Meanwhile, TikTok creator Kee (@cloutykee) also joined in the #ThinkTwice trend by sharing another Macau and phishing scam that cost his best friend RM2,000, after scammers pretended to be a banker and a police officer via a phone call from an unknown number.

These community-led efforts emphasise a collective ‘Pause, Prevent, and Protect’ philosophy, urging Malaysians to verify information through official channels such as the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Semak Mule portal or the Securities Commission’s Investment Checker before making any payments.

The #ThinkTwice initiative, supported by TikTok Malaysia, serves as a digital literacy platform that enables this community-driven awareness.

By providing a multilingual Knowledge Hub in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, and Tamil, the platform allows users to access simplified educational resources and step-by-step safety guides.

TikTok said the collaborative effort, which includes support from PDRM, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and the Securities Commission (SC) aims to nurture a more informed and resilient online community.

Rather than just consuming entertainment, Malaysians are now using the platform’s comment sections and “stitch” features to create a protective space for one another, proving that online communities can be a powerful force for social good.

Netizens interested in joining the movement or learning more about scam prevention can search for #ThinkTwice on TikTok to access the multilingual hub and share their own stories.
