Demise Of Istana Budaya Traditional Orchestra Conductor A Big Loss - Mohd Johari

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- The sudden passing of Istana Budaya Malaysian Traditional Orchestra (OTM) conductor, Mohd Yazid Zakaria, today, was described as a great loss to the institution.

Istana Budaya deputy director-general (operation) Mohd Johari Md Nordin, said Mohd Yazid had served Istana Budaya since 2008 as a musician and had garnered various achievements such as the National Public Service (Management and Professional) Employee Award in conjunction with the 2024 Labour Day Celebration.

Apart from that the late musician also won the Excellent Service Award (APC) for the years 2024 and 2016, he added.

"He also managed to contribute as the music director and conductor for the Gala Dinner performance of the 47th ASEAN Summit," he said in a statement here today.

He also prayed that the late Mohd Yazid's soul would be blessed and placed among the faithful.

The deceased breathed his last at a clinic in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, at around 11 am today after experiencing muscle cramps and collapsing while waiting for treatment.

The deceased's fourth son, Ahmad Ariff Azhari Mohd Yazid, 23, was previously reported to have said that although the clinic had done its utmost to carry out continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and various efforts while waiting for the arrival of the ambulance, Mohd Yazid was confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, through a post on his Facebook page, also expressed his condolences and appreciation for all the contributions and services of the deceased in raising the status of music, especially traditional music.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil also expressed his sadness over the passing of the OTM director and described the deceased as a gem and an artistic leader who was not only committed, but also dedicated and respected.
