KUALA TERENGGANU, July 10 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 begins today at the Pasar Kedai Payang compound here, as a manifestation of the federal government's commitment to empowering the people's well-being through an inclusive and comprehensive approach.
Themed Pembangunan MADANI Rakyat Sejahtera, the three-day programme organised by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), through the Performance Acceleration and Coordination Unit (PACU) is being held in strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Works (KKR) and Implementation Coordination Unit, Prime Minister's Department (ICU JPM).
The programme, which runs from 9 am to 10 pm today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday), and 9 am to 6 pm on Saturday, is targeting a total of 25,000 visitors, in line with the various activities and services offered to the people.
Among the main activities are the opening of 24 federal and state government service booths, MADANI Sales with discounts of between 10 and 30 per cent on daily necessities, free helmet replacement by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), and a discount of up to 50 per cent on traffic summonses by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
Young people will have the opportunity to seize more than 500 job opportunities through the Career Carnival involving the government and private sectors, in addition to participating in the JuniorSkills drone competition, offering attractive prizes for primary, secondary and public school categories.
Taking advantage of its location near the sea, Terengganu PMR also highlights local identity through the organisation of the Karnival Candat Sotong, a heritage of sea activities that is increasingly popular not only with anglers, but also among the public who want to try the unique experience of catching squid.
The programme is also enlivened with cultural and heritage elements such as demonstrations of traditional games and cooking, batik painting activities, cultural heritage art exhibition, and various leisure events including Explore Race Pasar Payang, Fun Run and Sukan Rakyat that strengthen community spirit.
Raising the balance between physical and spiritual development, spiritual enrichment such as Terengganu Bermunajat, Pocket Talk organised by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), as well as a majlis tahlil and doa selamat for the 15 students of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) who died in a bus accident recently, will also be held.
Terengganu is the third location of the PMR tour series this year after Sabah (May 9-11), before continuing to destinations such as Lumut (Perak), followed by Kota Lama (Kelantan), Nilai (Negeri Sembilan), Baling (Kedah), Jasin (Melaka) and Bintulu (Sarawak).
The official closing ceremony of the Terengganu PMR is scheduled to take place on Saturday and will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and is also expected to be attended by the top federal and state government leaders.
