SEREMBAN, June 24 (Bernama) -- Negeri Sembilan has ended a decade-long wait by recording a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.86 in the 2024 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) results, surpassing the national CGPA of 2.85.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the achievement, which Negeri Sembilan last recorded in 2014, was realised through continuous efforts and the strong commitment of educators, in addition to various state government initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education in the state.
"For the first time (in 10 years), the state CGPA has surpassed the national CGPA, even if only by 0.01 but I deeply appreciate it and would like to thank all parties, especially educational institutions, schools, parents and students who achieved this excellent result.
"Various assistance and allocations have been given to support educational excellence in the state, including through Yayasan Negeri Sembilan’s various incentives to help the development of socio education, such as the allocation of RM100,000 for tuition programmes for STPM students,” he told reporters after delivering the results to the state’s excellent STPM candidates at Tuanku Muhriz Form Six College here today.
He added that the state government had allocated RM12 million for the education sector and is expected to increase the allocation this year to ensure that education performance is more competitive.
Meanwhile, the best Science stream student in Negeri Sembilan, Hew Siow Xuan, 20, shared that she spent her weekends going for at least eight hours’ worth of tuition and additional classes, and expressed her dream of being able to further her studies in Petroleum Engineering at any local university.
Fellow excellent student, Muhammad Fahrin Danial Abd Aziz, 20, from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Mantin said that success did not merely depend on how much you studied, but was also influenced by a positive attitude in daily life.
“Firstly, we need to pray and have a good relationship with Allah, as well as our parents and teachers. All these are important factors that spur success,” he added.
