NILAI, June 30 (Bernama) -- Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) has identified 15 locations for the implementation of the Roads Without Dust Pioneer Project, especially in tourist attractions, in Negeri Sembilan.
Negeri Sembilan SWCorp director Cairul Hisham Jalaluddin said the initiative aims to create a cleaner urban environment, free of dust, fine dirt and pollutants that can affect public comfort and tarnish public image.
“Besides Dataran Nilai here, other locations include Lorong Seni, Seremban, Dataran Senawang, the front steps of the Seremban City Council, Dataran Melang, Dataran Jempol and Jeti Pantai Batu 1 as well as Dataran Kemang in Port Dickson.
“This project was a result of a working visit by SWCorp chief executive officer Khalid Mohamed to China in April where he witnessed for himself the effectiveness of urban cleanliness systems using modern machinery without polluting road surfaces,” he told reporters after inspecting cleaning activities here today, in the presence of Negeri Sembilan Local Government Development, Housing and Transport Committee chairman J Arul Kumar.
He shared that cleaning work was done in tandem, including using high pressure cleaning and manual sweeping, enabling a more detailed and complete implementation.
Work included collecting and sweeping of solid waste, manual cleaning of bird droppings, especially in shaded areas and public locations and road surface cleaning using high pressure water pumps to eliminate dust, sand and dirt.
“We are also planning to continue doing this in phases as a long term urban cleaning plan. If we get a good response, we will continue in other locations, as cleanliness is a shared responsibility,” Cairul said.
Meanwhile, Arul Kumar said the project received encouraging feedback from the public, especially where the visual level of cleanliness and a more comfortable environment.
“Most importantly next year is Visit Negeri Sembilan 2026, so in this six months, we can clean up tourist attractions, including Dataran Nilai, which will be the venue of big programmes like NS Fest and national level events.
“So I hope after this, the public doesn’t litter everywhere and dirty up the place. It not only value adds to public health but also raises the image of high impact areas like tourist spots and recreational areas,” he added.
