26/01/2023 06:03 PM

KOTA TINGGI, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- The Jalan Kota Tinggi-Mersing route has been closed at KM60 to light vehicles since noon yesterday, due to floods.

Kota Tinggi District Police chief Supt Hussin Zamora said members of the public were advised to take an alternative route through Tenggaroh.

"So far, only one main route, Jalan Kota Tinggi-Mersing, has been closed to light vehicles, and only heavy vehicles and four-wheel drives are allowed to pass through.

"A 40m-stretch of the road is flooded," he said when met at the relief centre set up at Dewan Muafakat Taman Desaru Utama, here, today.

He said other roads closed to light vehicles were Jalan Mawai Lama (Rumah Burung), Jalan Tanjung Sedili (Kampung Gembut), Jalan Johor Bahru-Endau (RISDA Farm) and Jalan Lok Heng-Sungai Mas (Sungai Semalok).

Hussin said the police were also actively conducting patrols as well as sending food aid to nearby residents such as the oil palm plantation workers at Ladang Ibzi Punggai, who were cut off from food supplies due to flooded roads.

He said meetings with various agencies, including the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, the Army, local authorities, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force and the Ministry of Health were continuously held to ensure that duties and roles were well coordinated without any duplication of efforts.
