KOTA BHARU, May 20 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan state government has ordered all shopping complexes, supermarkets and hypermarkets to close fully on the first day of Hari Raya Aidiladha next Wednesday.
Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohamed Fadzli Hassan said fast food outlets and convenience stores, including 7-Eleven, E-Mart and Family Mart, would only be allowed to operate after 1 pm on the day.
He said the decision, agreed upon during the state executive council meeting today, was in line with the approach implemented during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“The closure is aimed at giving workers in the retail and service sectors the opportunity to perform Aidiladha prayers and carry out korban rituals with their families,” he told reporters after attending the meeting at the Kota Darulnaim Complex here today.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Fadzli said the state government viewed seriously the rise in murder cases in Kelantan, describing the situation as worrying.
He said although the state’s overall crime index remained lower than other states, the rise in murder cases from one case during the same five-month period last year to five cases this year, required serious attention.
He also expressed appreciation to the police (PDRM) for their continued efforts in combating crime and maintaining public safety in the state.
