KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 3  (Bernama) -- The East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) has produced 2,447 entrepreneurs in various business fields in Terengganu since 2018.

Its chief executive officer, Datuk Baidzawi Che Mat said all of them had been given training and guidance in technical aspects, skill management and digital marketing to run the business formally.

“Among the courses held were food and beverage preparation, creative sewing, massage and spa, make-up and bridal services and a special programme for community entrepreneurs.

"Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) as the coordinator to conduct entrepreneurs development programmes, will continue to guide them to generate income and adapt to digitalisation to improve their business capabilities,” he told reporters after presenting training completion certificates and business start-up kits to 450 new entrepreneurs today.

All the recipients are from Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Nerus, Marang and Setiu, and each of them received a start-up kit worth RM1,500.

According to Baidzawi, other entrepreneurs from Dungun, Kemaman, Hulu Terengganu and Besut are trained by Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA).

Meanwhile, an elderly participant, Che Teh Ambak, said she was very grateful to ECERDC for helping her earn income through the demonstration activity of making mats using sea pandan leaves at her home in Kampung Kuala Setiu.

“ECERDC gives opportunities to anyone regardless of age to generate income. Today, I also received a special award of RM2,000 to expand my hut for tourists to come and see my product comfortably,” said the 70-year-old woman.

Another 33-year-old participant, Rosliza Bidin, was thankful as her income as make-up and bridal artist has increased four-fold since she participated in the ECERDC entrepreneurship course.

“Before this, I only earn RM1,500, but now I earn about RM7,000. I was lucky to take up this course for free. I gained a lot of knowledge on the changing trends of make-up,” she said.
