ARAU, April 23 -- The Neighbourhood Watch (KRT)’s Jiran Wanita plays significant role in ensuring the community continues to be active with various programmes and activities planned throughout the year.
Perlis National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) director Zulkhairi Zainal said Jiran Wanita’s huge contribution as the KRT’s driving force was undisputable as these women have always been active.
“Jiran Wanita unit is the backbone of the KRT, not only the members are effective in organising programmes but they also involved in conducting patrols via the Volunteer Patrol Scheme (SRS) in the community,” he said to Bernama recently.
He said Jiran Wanita’s roles were extensive, among others, to help single mothers in the community, conducting patrols, organising gotong-royong (communal work) and so on.
Meanwhile, Arau public housing project (RPA)’s Jiran Wanita chairperson, Latifah Mustaffa, said that her unit’s 30 members would be actively involved in all activities planned.
Latifah, 63, said she began to participate in Jiran Wanita after the death of her husband six years ago.
“Although we carry out various activities such cooking class, Quran reading and such, we at the Arau KRT are also involved in conducting security patrol at our residential area,” she said.
She also likened other KRT members as her big family who were there for each other.
