Sarawak launches two COVID-19 contact tracing apps

29/05/2020 03:32 PM

KUCHING, May 29 -- The Sarawak government has developed two mobile applications to help the people and business community in the state in tracing and managing data related to COVID-19 pandemic.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg today said the development of these apps namely COVIDTrace and QMUNITY was one of the four strategies employed by the state government in carrying out mass public contact tracing to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

“When we know these people are affected and then we try to cut off the infection chain, this is where the apps will play its part through central data. The data will be stored and retrieved through these special applications,” he said at the launch of the apps at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here.

He said the apps would also become an alternative to the current practice of business premises operating during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period, which requires members of the public to write down their personal details in a logbook.

“Once you scan the QR code, it will store your data, nobody will know your name or phone numbers, so the data is kept only by the people who manage the code,” he added.

The apps can be downloaded through Apple Apps Store and Google Play Store starting today.
