Kepala Batas residents hope Reezal Merican focuses on youth development

10/03/2020 06:58 PM

KEPALA BATAS, March 10 -- Residents in the Kepala Batas parliamentary constituency welcomed the appointment of their Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican as Youth and Sports Minister in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and hoped he will focus more on youth development.

Mohd Ishar Mohd Razak, 42, said he also hoped the appointment will also improve the lives of the local community, especially youths, as he believed in Reezal Merican’s ability to help the people.

“If you ask the locals here (Kepala Batas), the development brought about by Pak Lah (Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) when he was MP was continued by Datuk Seri Reezal Merican, and now we see so many amenities.

“We hope that Datuk Seri (Reezal Merican) will now develop more areas, especially for youths, in line with his appointment as Youth and Sports Minister,” Mohd Ishar told Bernama here today.

Another local resident, Azizi Safar, in his 50s, said Reezal Merican’s appointment as Youth and Sports Minister was apt as he was friendly to youths and young people, and was a former leader of a youth organisation, the Gabungan Pelajar Melayu Semenanjung (GPMS).

Azizi said in the last two general elections, Reezal Merican won the support of the youths because of his approach to them.

Meanwhile, in Nibong Tebal, Bernama found that most residents hoped for the local economy to be boosted with the appointment of their MP Datuk Dr Mansor Othman as Deputy Minister of Higher Education.

Beauty salon operator  Ha Man Lee, 52, said since seven years ago, the businesses of local traders suffered as there was no new development in the area, and many people had to go to Seberang Jaya or Penang Island to shop or for recreation as there were none in Nibong Tebal.

School-leaver Nurul Eliyana Shamsul Murad, 18, said due to the lack of jobs in the area, she had to venture out further to get employment while waiting to further her studies at the tertiary level.

She added that she also hoped the Nibong Tebal Parliamentary office would put in effort to improve the infrastructure in the area.
