Early STR Phase Two Payment Eases Aidilfitri Preparations For Recipients

SIBU, March 10 (Bernama) -- The government’s decision to bring forward the Phase Two payment of Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR)  has provided relief to recipients, particularly those from low-income groups, as they prepare for Aidilfitri.

Kamarudin Abdul Karim, 38, who is self-employed repairing washing machines, fans and other electrical appliances, said he was surprised to find that the aid for single recipients had already been credited to his account when he checked this morning.

Kamarudin, who suffers from fatigue, said his income is uncertain as he only earns wages when he receives repair jobs.

“I was really surprised when I checked my STR this morning and found that the payment had been credited. My income is not fixed as I only earn when I get jobs repairing washing machines or fans.

“This aid has given me some relief in preparing for Hari Raya this year. At least I can buy Raya clothes,” he told Bernama.

Meanwhile, cameraman Mohammad Khairuddin Rushdi Ayuphan, 32, said the earlier distribution of STR benefits the public, particularly those in the low-income group.

He said receiving the assistance earlier allows recipients to better plan their Aidilfitri preparations, including purchasing essential items, clothing and food.

“This move is very timely because the cost of festive preparations usually increases. This assistance can at least ease the burden and allow people to celebrate Hari Raya more comfortably with their families,” he said.

He also described the government’s decision to accelerate the payment as a caring approach towards the needs of the people who are currently facing the rising cost of living.

“Hopefully, initiatives like this will continue in the future because they not only provide financial help but also bring joy and relief to many families preparing for the festival,” he said.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the STR Phase Two 2026 payment would be brought forward to March 10 to help recipients prepare for Aidilfitri.

The early payment involves an allocation of RM3.1 billion, benefitting about five million recipients nationwide.
