Elderly Man Charged With Murder In Sepanggar Case

KOTA KINABALU, Feb 27 (Bernama) -- An elderly man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with the murder of a woman whose body parts were found in Sepanggar earlier this month, believed to have been dismembered.

The accused, Piluta Samad, 71, indicated that he understood the charge read out to him before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus. No plea was recorded as the case is under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The court set April 15 for case mention to obtain the full chemistry, forensic, pathology and DNA reports.

According to the charge, Piluta, who is self-employed, is accused of murdering Hamidah Husin @ Lisa, 44, at an unnumbered house in Kampung Sri Kenangan, Jalan Sepanggar here between 6pm and 7pm on Feb 11.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, and not fewer than 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

The magistrate also ordered that the accused be held at Kepayan Prison pending the next mention date.

Deputy public prosecutor Kareena Kaut Gill Katamjit Singh appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was not represented.

On Feb 12, several body parts of a woman were discovered at rubbish disposal sites around Indah Permai here.

Police later arrested the suspect and detained three of his children to assist in investigations.
