TELUK INTAN, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- Police arrested a man believed to be involved in a burglary following an incident at the southbound Rest and Service Area of the North-South Expressway (PLUS), which went viral on social media today.
Perak Police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the suspect, travelling from Manjung to Kuala Lumpur, was apprehended by a crime prevention patrol team from the Tapah District Police Headquarters around 12.30 pm.
He said the police pursuit involved the suspect's Perodua Aruz multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), which began in Tapah and continued to the location of the incident.
"Police were forced to fire a single shot at the tyre of the vehicle driven by a 35-year-old suspect. Inside the suspect’s vehicle, police discovered various burglary tools, including a police jacket.
“This is a good example of inter-district police cooperation, coming together as a unified team to apprehend the suspect successfully,” he told reporters after closing the 'Ter..Paling Pahlawan Challenge 2025', organised by the Hilir Perak District Police at Padang Speedy today.
Noor Hisam added that the police were still tracking down two other MPVs, a Toyota Hilux and a Perodua Alza, believed to be linked to the arrested suspect.
“God willing, we will be able to resolve this case with the arrest of the main suspect,” he said.
Earlier, a video went viral on social media showing a group of police officers pursuing and intercepting a vehicle driven by a suspected criminal, who was travelling against traffic, before the suspect re-entered the expressway.
In the video, a gunshot could be heard before the suspect’s MPV was intercepted and blocked, with officers pulling the driver out of the vehicle.
The suspect was then seen ordered to lie down on the roadside while police checked his vehicle.
