KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- The national men’s and women’s rugby sevens (7s) squads will compete in the fifth-to-eighth placing classification matches of the 2025 Asia Rugby Sevens Series after completing their group stage campaigns in Hangzhou, China, today.
The men’s team finished second in Group A with two wins against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) 21-15 and Uzbekistan 21-12, before going down heavily to Hong Kong 0-59.
The Bunga Raya 7s squad, coached by Nik Safuan Ismade Nik Man, are scheduled to take on Taiwan in the knockout round tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the women’s team ended their Group D campaign in third place with one win over Sri Lanka (24-14) and two defeats, namely to UAE (7-22) and China (0-34), setting up a clash against Kazakhstan tomorrow.
As a note, only the bottom two teams will be eliminated from the tournament and relegated to the Asia Rugby Sevens Challenge Trophy.
