ERL ENTERS 20 YEARS OF SERVICE, PRIORITISES PARTNERSHIPS, USER IMPROVEMENTS

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 -- Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) will prioritise collaborations with strategic partners and focus on customer experience improvements as it enters its 20 year of service in April 2022.

In a statement today, ERL said its train ridership had gradually increased month-on-month since the start of Phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan as more people returned to work and travelled for domestic holidays.

To accelerate its ridership recovery, ERL said it would continue its “Go Cashless” drive with more attractive offers this year in partnerships with TNG Digital Sdn Bhd (TNGD), ShopeePay and Bank Islam.

“ERL is offering a greater discount of 20 per cent (increased from 15 per cent during last year’s promotions) for customers who use Touch ‘n Go e-Wallet or Bank Islam cards for their cashless transactions.

“This year will also see ERL reviving its business-to-business collaborations starting with a Mini Program on the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app and relaunch train ticket sales on Malaysia Airlines’ flight booking platform as well as its travel and lifestyle digital platform, Journify, as the country gears up for the opening of its international borders,” it said.

Chief executive officer Noormah Mohd Noor said ERL’s ridership increased by 59 per cent year-on-year in the last quarter of 2021 and it is hopeful that the cost-saving measures taken so far and new initiatives in the pipeline will put ERL back on track to recovery this year.

“We saw a steady growth of cashless transactions especially with the introduction of e-Wallets on our platform since 2016 and the relaunch of our all-new KL International Airport (KLIA) Ekspres app last year,” she said.

Today, almost 60 per cent of ERL’s ticketing transactions are cashless, a significant jump from 39 per cent five years ago, Noormah said.

ERL said KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit tickets will be offered on the new platform by end of January 2022 in time for the Chinese New Year holiday travel.
