SHAH ALAM, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- Nearly three hours of heavy rain triggered flash floods in several areas of Universiti Teknologi MARA’s (UiTM) Puncak Alam campus in Kuala Selangor.
UiTM Selangor Branch Rector Prof Dr Ahmad Taufek Abdul Rahman said an inspection conducted after the incident found that the continuous heavy rain had caused an excessive volume of water to flow through the drainage system.
“As a result, the concrete beam structure of the drain gave way, causing water to overflow into nearby areas.
“However, all 16 water retention ponds within the campus were found to be functioning properly. Conditions on campus have now returned to normal,” he said in a statement.
Ahmad Taufek said repair works would be carried out immediately to ensure the safety and well-being of the campus community.
Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations assistant director Ashrul Riezal Asbar told Bernama that a team of officers and personnel from the Bestari Jaya Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 5 pm.
“Further checks found that the flooding in the area was under control, with water levels showing a downward trend and gradually receding. No casualties were reported, and no evacuation operation was carried out,” he said.
Earlier, the media reported that several areas on the campus had been hit by flash floods following heavy rain, with water inundating several locations and affecting vehicle movement.
