Heavy Rain Triggers Flash Floods At UiTM Puncak Alam

SHAH ALAM, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- Several areas at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Selangor Branch, Puncak Alam Campus in Kuala Selangor, were hit by flash floods after heavy rain late this afternoon, causing water levels to rise and disrupting traffic.

Several users on the Threads social networking application shared updates on the flood situation at the campus.

A Threads user, nis0piee, uploaded several videos showing the campus bus waiting area flooded up to calf level, saying it was their first time experiencing such an incident.

Another user, afiqqqdaniel, uploaded a video showing muddy water overflowing onto a road, believed to be on campus.

User nabiq65 also shared two videos showing a flash flood in an area believed to be near the Faculty of Built Environment at UiTM Puncak Alam.

A video shared by Zamron Mat on Facebook showed an individual saying that Taman Sri Alam, Saujana Utama in Sungai Buloh was also affected, with water spilling onto main roads.

The individual advised residents to move their vehicles to safer locations and prioritise safety.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations assistant director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said a team from Bestari Jaya Fire and Rescue Station is en route to the scene, and further updates will be provided soon.

Meanwhile, Ashrul said the department received three calls about flash flood incidents today in Kampung Johan Setia, the UiTM Puncak Alam Campus, and Taman Seri Alam in Saujana Utama.

He said in Kampung Johan Setia, water levels reached about 0.3 metres and entered several homes, but no evacuations were carried out.

At the UiTM Puncak Alam Campus kindergarten, floodwaters had receded by the time firefighters arrived at 5.26 pm, and no rescue operation was needed.

Checks at Taman Seri Alam, Saujana Utama revealed the residential area was also hit by flash floods after heavy rain and overflow from a nearby retention pond. Water levels were estimated at 0.3 metres. No evacuation was required.
