KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- Passengers on Electric Train Service (ETS) trains can now enjoy Malaysian coffee as part of a new initiative to bring local flavours into the rail travel experience in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026-2027.
Tourism Malaysia, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), Oriental Kopi and Stesen jointly launched the Kopi Malaysia, Kini Dalam Tren initiative to showcase the country’s coffee culture to passengers, including international visitors.
KTMB group chief executive officer Datuk Azlan Shah Al Bakri said the initiative would be rolled out in stages, beginning with Oriental Kopi beverages on ETS services before expanding to food and other train services.
“During the first phase, we are focusing on ETS, which carries between 16,000 and 20,000 passengers daily. We are targeting at least 20 per cent of them to participate in or try the offerings under this collaboration.
“We hope the initiative will be well received and that its promotions and public reach can be expanded,” he told Bernama after the launch today.
Azlan Shah said KTMB also planned to expand its food and beverage (F&B) services through its Stesen outlets at railway stations, giving passengers more choices.
The first outlet began operations at Kempas Station in Johor on Nov 2, offering beverages similar to those available on board its trains.
Meanwhile, Oriental Kopi managing director Datuk Calvin Chan said the collaboration had been in the pipeline for some time, with the aim of bringing local flavours closer to passengers, particularly foreign tourists.
“Local food and beverages play an important role in giving visitors a cultural experience when they come to Malaysia. We are targeting sales of one million cups a year, but as this is still at an early stage, we will first assess passenger response and the number of trains offering our products,” he said.
Tourism Malaysia director-general Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim said the initiative would allow visitors to experience Malaysia not only through its tourist destinations but also through its local gastronomy.
He said the collaboration supported efforts to promote Malaysian food and beverages as a distinctive tourism attraction during Visit Malaysia 2026-2027.
