KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) has drawn up a comprehensive plan to expand its international market presence, including tapping into markets in Ghana and Beijing by 2027, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin said the initiative, under the Global Export and Entrepreneurship Empowerment Programme (GLOBEX), aims to strengthen the export capabilities of local agrofood entrepreneurs and ensure that innovative products showcased at exhibitions are successfully commercialised.

He said the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) had set several targets for 2027, including two export simulation and trial exercises, four trade missions, the development of six products for export certification, and eight pitching sessions and mentoring courses.

"The initiative also aims to establish four overseas marketing agents in collaboration with export management companies.

"For example, we plan to lead a FAMA delegation to Asia Fruit Logistica 2027 in Hong Kong, as well as undertake market development missions to Ghana and Beijing," he said when replying to a supplementary question from Dr Ahmad Fakhruddin Fakhrurazi (PN-Kuala Kedah).

On the domestic front, Chan said FAMA was making use of development projects under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), particularly the Micro Product Market Development and Matching initiative.

He said the initiative aims to build the capacity of 100 agrofood small and medium enterprise (SME) entrepreneurs in 2027, support participation in two trade exhibitions and strengthen product branding through improvements in quality, packaging and labelling.

Meanwhile, he said the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Show 2026 (MAHA) had achieved encouraging results, with 97 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth RM10.35 billion signed, exceeding the initial target of RM8 billion.

Chan said the MAHA Go Global segment also recorded RM714.4 million in business matching deals during MAHA Traders Day, while FAMA signed seven MoUs worth RM15.56 million with local companies and international strategic partners.
