KULIM, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- The Kulim Municipal Council (MPKK) has streamlined the application and site allocation processes for the 2027 Ramadan Bazaar through its online e-Lesen (e-License) system, making stall rentals more systematic, transparent and accessible to traders.
MPKK secretary Noorul Azyyati Ahmad Salmi said the system was first introduced for the 2026 Ramadan Bazaar and would continue to be used next year with several improvements.
She said one of the enhancements was the announcement of bidding results for sites at Kelang Lama within 30 minutes of the online bidding process ending.
"Through this system, traders can also navigate the application process more easily and clearly," she told Bernama at the Municipal Hall here today.
Noorul Azyyati said applications for next year's Ramadan Bazaar covered 23 locations, comprising 10 rural and 13 urban areas, with an estimated 1,000 traders expected to participate.
"All application procedures and stall allocations are managed through the e-Lesen system, which includes an online ballot for standard sites and an e-Bida (e-Bidding) process for sites at Kelang Lama.
"Key locations in urban areas include Kelang Lama, Taman Selasih and the vicinity of Kulim town centre. Another new location is expected to begin operations at the Padang Serai Bus Station, offering 23 bazaar lots," she said.
She noted that stall rental rates had increased slightly this year due to higher management costs, including expenses for cleaning and preparing the sites before the bazaars begin operations.
However, she said the rates remained competitive and were among the lowest compared with those imposed by several other local authorities (PBTs) in major urban areas.
Noorul Azyyati said interested traders could check the application schedule on MPKK's official website and Facebook page or contact the council directly for further information.
She also expressed hope that all traders participating in the 2027 Ramadan Bazaar would conduct their businesses responsibly while maintaining the cleanliness of their stalls and the quality of food sold.
Meanwhile, beverage vendor Mohd Yusni Md Razli, 51, who has been selling sugarcane juice and coconut drinks at Ramadan bazaars for more than 20 years, said the online application system had simplified the process, particularly for traders familiar with digital platforms.
"However, those who are less familiar with technology will have to learn something new.
"As for the increase in stall rental fees, I do not find it overly burdensome. At an average of about RM20 a day, the rate remains reasonable," he said.
Another food and beverage vendor, Ridzaudin Abdul Rani, 48, said the rental increase of approximately RM100 was not a significant burden, particularly given the rising costs of various business operations.
"Based on current market rates, the rental is still considered low. In fact, some stalls command rates of up to RM200 a day, yet there are still people willing to pay," he said.
