NAGOYA (Japan), Oct 21 (Bernama) -- Mobility is about more than just wheels taking people from one destination to another. It can also open up wider opportunities to move, play sports and explore the world regardless of physical ability.

That was among the key takeaways from Bernama’s visit to the Me Series exhibition at Toyota House, Mizuho Stadium, here, which showcased three mobility concepts that take a different approach to movement - Walk Me, Boost Me and Challenge Me.

Toyota Sports Relations Group project manager Mio Hayakawa said the company was exploring technology not only to support everyday mobility but also to broaden opportunities for people with different physical abilities to participate in sports and enjoy outdoor experiences.

She said the three models were introduced as concepts at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show under the ‘Mobility for All’ vision, with each designed to meet different mobility needs.

Hayakawa said the series was developed with the understanding that everyone faces different challenges and has individual requirements when it comes to movement.

“The Me Series is really about supporting daily life. Everybody has different difficulties or requirements when it comes to mobility, which is why we have different models to cater to different needs,” she told Bernama at the exhibition.

Hayakawa said ‘Boost Me’ was designed to incorporate sports into mobility, expanding users’ options for activities such as tennis and basketball while allowing people with different physical abilities to play together.

The concept uses core body movements, including bending, twisting and stretching, to control its movement without requiring users to operate it with their hands.

Meanwhile, ‘Walk Me’ offers a different solution through a four-legged mechanism that allows it to navigate uneven surfaces and climb steps, providing an alternative for people who have difficulty walking.

It also features a height-adjustable seat to facilitate transfers to other chairs and is designed to support movement both indoors and outdoors.

“Challenge Me is an electric chair that lets anyone take on the ultimate adventure, with all-terrain performance and the ability to climb steps,” Hayakawa said.

She said that each concept served a distinct purpose, with Boost Me focusing more on sports, while Walk Me and Challenge Me addressed everyday mobility and outdoor adventures.

Although all three remain at the concept stage, she said the exhibition offered a glimpse into Toyota’s future mobility exploration, highlighting the diverse needs of users and opportunities to participate in a wider range of activities.

Bernama’s visit also found that Toyota House featured para sports equipment and a Boccia robot, showcasing the different ways the company is exploring technology in sports and mobility.

Hayakawa said the exhibition aimed to give visitors an insight into how Toyota supports sports through various initiatives.

“Our first objective with Toyota Sports House was to showcase how Toyota supports sports and where we stand in that area. That is why we started this exhibition,” she said.

Among the exhibits were a sit-ski used in para alpine skiing and a marathon racing wheelchair, alongside an interactive para sports experience featuring a Boccia robot developed by the Toyota Engineering Club.
