KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- National women’s squash player Rachel Arnold advanced to the second round of the Silicon Valley Open in Redwood City, the United States, after defeating Ukraine’s Alina Bushma on Tuesday.
In the first-round match at SquashZone, the world No. 22 had little trouble overcoming her world No. 47 opponent 11-6, 11-9, 13-15, 11-9.
However, a tougher test awaits Rachel in the second round when she faces world No. 10 Amanda Sobhy of the United States, who has beaten her in all three of their previous meetings.
Another national women’s player, Aifa Azman, also advanced after defeating Spain’s Marta Dominguez 3-11, 11-2, 11-3, 11-9.
Awaiting Aifa in the second round is compatriot and national squash ace S. Sivasangari, who received a bye in the first round.
