KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s Muhammad Ammar Aiman Nor Azmi failed to defend his men’s T20 (intellectual impairment) 400-metre gold medal at the 2026 Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, after settling for silver today.

The 24-year-old Ammar Aiman, making his second appearance at the Games, clocked 48.34 seconds to finish behind Idris Sufyani of Saudi Arabia in the final at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium.

Idris clinched gold in 48.25s, breaking his own Games record of 48.71s, set in the second heat yesterday.

Indonesia’s Alfin Nomleni completed the podium with the bronze medal after clocking 49.18s.

Malaysia have won one gold medal through track cyclist Zuhairie Ahmad Tarmizi in the men’s C4-C5 (physical impairment) 1,000m time trial, in addition to a bronze by Mohamad Yusof Hafizi Shaharuddin in the men’s C1-C2 (physical impairment) 3,000m individual pursuit.

The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games, which began last Sunday, will run until Oct 24.
