30 Pct Discount On ECRL Economy-class Tickets For First Month Of Operations

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) will offer a 30 per cent discount on East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) economy-class tickets for one month to mark the launch of the service on Dec 12.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the offer was for members of the public who did not enjoy concession fares and was not an additional discount on existing concession tickets.

“The ECRL is scheduled to begin operations on Dec 12, while ticket sales will open soon. However, this discount is a special offer for the public to mark the launch,” he told reporters after opening the Transport Expo Asia (TXA) 2026 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here today.

He said ECRL fares had been set with both affordability for passengers and the sustainability of the company's operations in mind.

Meanwhile, Loke said ECRL freight services along the Gombak-Kota Bharu route would begin operations simultaneously with passenger services, which are scheduled to start in mid-December.

However, he said freight services could not yet be extended to Port Klang as construction of the Gombak-Port Klang section was still ongoing and was expected to take about another year to complete.

He said MRL would review the freight charges.

In a related development, Loke said fares for the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link were expected to be announced jointly by the end of this year.

He said the announcement would be made before the service began operations, which are expected around February next year.

He added that the public would be given sufficient time to familiarise themselves with the fares before the service commenced.
