KBS Hopes Budget 2027 Gives Good News To Sports Community

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) hopes that the 2027 Budget, to be tabled tomorrow, will bring good news to the entire national sports community including athletes and coaches and boost the development of the sports ecosystem as a whole.

Its Minister, Dr. Mohamed Taufiq Johari, said the upcoming allocation is expected to further strengthen national sports development while ensuring that athlete welfare is prioritized not only during their active careers but also after retirement.

“Our hope is that this Budget will bring good news for everyone in the sports community from athletes and coaches to the entire national sports ecosystem enabling us to move forward and continue making Malaysia proud.

“Athlete welfare is also paramount. We want to ensure their well-being is looked after not just while they are active athletes, but also after they retire or have finished providing their best service to the country,” he said.

He said this during the *Bernama Radio Fokus 30* programme, which was also attended by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.

Mohamed Taufiq added that youth development is another key focus for KBS, particularly in assisting youths who are not in employment, education, or training (NEET), as well as vulnerable youth groups.

“We also have hopes for our young people specifically NEET youths, vulnerable youths, and those in need of a promising future.

“That is our hope that this Budget focuses on holistic youth development,” he said.

When asked whether the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) had requested additional funding to host the 2027 SEA Games in Malaysia, he said the matter would be announced during the Budget presentation tomorrow.

However, he gave an assurance that KBS would ensure the games are organised smoothly and rank among the best editions ever held.
